How Julie Nise's Approach Combines Clinical Training with Coaching Power

There's a specific kind of coach that's rare to find.

Someone who has the deep clinical training to understand the human psyche. Someone who is licensed, regulated, and held to clinical standards. Someone who chose to step away from traditional therapy because they saw a better way.

That's me.

And this is my story, and why my unique combination matters for your relationship.

The Clinical Foundation

I have a Master's degree in Clinical Psychology. I'm a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT).

Those credentials mean I've done:

I understand the human psyche at a deep level. I can recognize trauma. I understand attachment patterns. I know how mental health issues show up in relationships. I can spot when someone needs therapy instead of coaching.

But here's the key: I chose to work as a coach, not as a therapist.

That choice matters.

Why I Chose Coaching Over Therapy

I spent years in clinical practice. I was good at it. I understood people deeply. I created real healing.

But I noticed something: therapy is slow.

You can understand where a pattern comes from and still live the pattern for years. You can have profound insight about your family history and still repeat the same dynamic with your partner.

Understanding doesn't automatically change behavior.

I also noticed something about my clients: they didn't want to spend two years understanding themselves. They wanted their relationships to work.

They wanted to feel connected to their partner. They wanted to communicate differently. They wanted to stop the same argument from happening for the hundredth time.

They wanted change.

That's when I realized: coaching might be more powerful than therapy for this.

Coaching says: you don't need to understand why you avoid intimacy to change how you show up. You just need to practice showing up differently.

That's revolutionary for people stuck in patterns.

My 20+ Year Track Record

I've worked with over 8,000 people across two decades.

I've appeared multiple times on Dr. Phil.

I've worked with CEOs and entrepreneurs, high-performing professionals, stay-at-home parents, and everyone in between.

I've been married 28 years to my husband Jim, a former naval aviator. We live in Pensacola, Florida.

That last part matters because it means I'm living the work I teach. I'm not theorizing about relationships. I'm building one. I'm handling conflict the way I coach you to handle it. I'm practicing presence and vulnerability the way I teach you to practice it.

This isn't academic. It's lived experience combined with professional expertise.

The Unique Combination

Here's what's rare about my approach:

Clinical depth without therapy pace.

I understand the psychological roots of patterns (clinical training) but I don't spend years processing them (coaching approach).

I help you understand enough to shift, but I don't get bogged down in the archaeology of your psyche.

Warm empathy with direct feedback.

I care deeply about you and your relationship. I'm not cold or clinical. But I'll also tell you the truth you need to hear, even when it's uncomfortable.

I'm warm but not coddling.

Recognition of when therapy is needed.

Because I have clinical training, I know when coaching isn't enough. If I recognize that you have untreated trauma or mental health issues, I'll refer you to a therapist.

I'm not trying to do therapy work as a coach. I'm clear about my scope.

NLP and neurolinguistic training without jargon.

I'm trained in NLP (neurolinguistic programming) and I understand how the brain works and how language shapes perception.

But I don't use jargon. I make complex concepts simple and actionable.

Results-oriented work with heart.

I'm not interested in keeping you in coaching indefinitely. I'm interested in you getting what you need and moving on with your life.

My goal is to equip you with skills and mindset shifts so you don't need me anymore.

How I Work

Here's what a coaching engagement with me looks like:

First, clarity.

We get really clear on what you want and what's blocking it. Not vague goals. Specific situations. Specific patterns.

Second, understanding without dwelling.

I help you see what's happening and why (clinical understanding) without getting stuck in processing (coaching pace).

We acknowledge the pattern. We understand it. Then we move.

Third, practice.

You're going to change your behavior. That requires practice. We practice in sessions. You practice at home. We check in on what happened.

Fourth, accountability.

I notice if you're sabotaging. I call it with love. But I call it.

You're committed to change. I'm here to support that and hold you to it.

Fifth, speed.

Most people see significant shifts in 8-12 weeks of focused work.

Not years. Months.

What My Clients Say

People come to me saying things like:

\"I didn't know coaching could be this fast.\"

\"I thought we'd have to spend months understanding our childhood wounds. Instead, we just started doing things differently and everything shifted.\"

\"You're not soft on us, but you actually care. That combination is powerful.\"

\"I thought we'd need therapy. We needed coaching.\"

\"I leave sessions knowing exactly what I'm going to do differently. And it works.\"

The Credentials Behind the Approach

Let me be specific about what qualifies me:

Master's in Clinical Psychology - I understand how the mind works, how people develop patterns, how psychology shapes relationships.

LPC (Licensed Professional Counselor) - I'm trained in counseling methodology and regulated by the state.

LMFT (Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist) - I have specific training in couples work and family systems.

NLP Certification - I understand neurolinguistic programming, which is about how language and thought patterns create reality.

20+ years of professional practice - I've seen every relationship pattern. Multiple times. I know what works.

Dr. Phil appearances - I've done national-level relationship work and media training.

Written a book - I've published Romance ESP, which is about expanding your emotional and sensual presence in relationships.

Host of Julie-911 podcast - I do real, honest conversations about relationships.

This isn't theory. This is lived, practiced, tested methodology.

My Perspective on Your Relationship

Here's what I believe:

You're not broken. You're stuck.

There's a difference.

Broken means there's pathology that needs treatment. Stuck means you're operating from patterns that don't serve you.

I work with people who are stuck.

I also believe:

These aren't hopes. They're observations from two decades of doing this work.

Why This Matters

The combination of clinical training + coaching approach + genuine care + accountability is rare.

Most therapists don't coach. Most coaches don't have clinical training. Most coaches don't have real experience helping thousands of people. Most people coaching on relationships don't have the psychological sophistication to recognize when someone needs therapy instead.

I have all of these.

It means:

A Personal Note

I'm 28 years into my own marriage. My husband and I are not perfect. We've had hard times. We've had to learn and grow and practice and fail and try again.

That's why I do this work. I know how hard it is. I also know how possible it is.

When you invest in your relationship and you get the right support, everything changes.

I've seen it a thousand times. People come in saying \"I don't know if we can fix this.\" Six weeks later, they're in a different marriage.

Not because their partner changed. Because they did. And when one person changes, the whole dynamic shifts.

That's what I'm here for. That's what my training, my experience, and my heart are all pointed toward.

Your Next Step

If you're ready to invest in your relationship, I'd love to work with you.

You'll know right away if coaching is the right approach and if we're a good fit. A session gives you the chance to experience how I work and decide if it resonates.

No pressure. Just an opportunity to explore whether this is the next step for your relationship.

Ready to Work Together?

If you're ready to stop being stuck and start building the relationship you actually want, let's talk.

A session is a chance to explore your situation, see how my approach lands, and make a decision about next steps.

You'll know if this is right for you.
